Greg Galoska
Violin & Viola Teacher
Greg Galoska, though born in London Ontario, calls the incredibly small town of Red Bay his home. He started playing the violin at the age of seven. When Greg started high school, he joined the Georgian Bay Symphony in Owen Sound under the direction of John Barnum and played there right up until he moved to Waterloo to attend Wilfrid Laurier University in Honours Music Orchestral Performance. During high school, he played in just about any group he could, from Jazz Band, to an a cappella quartet called the Westmen while receiving private lessons from Bruce Skelton for violin. Once at Laurier, Greg was under the direction of Jerzy Kaplanek and the Penderecki String Quartet. He was exposed to a wealth of repertoire in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. He has received awards for outstanding performances in local Kiwanis music festivals, as well as scholarships from the Georgian Bay Symphony and Wilfrid Laurier University. Greg is now studying Applied Photography at Sheridan Institute of Advanced Learning and Technology here in Oakville. While his schooling has switched from music to photography, Greg intends to keep both active for the entirety of his life, and is excited to have the opportunity to play with the OSO.
Greg looks forward to teaching violin especially at the crucial beginning stages. After having to spend much time correcting a poor initial set-up he realizes the importance of a solid foundation in violin technique. He has an appreciation for music in all forms, and has had a variety of different performing and learning experiences. Greg hopes to help his students discover the joy that a life of music has opened up to him.
